A Sustainable Publication?
A publication designed with sustainability in mind
Using my dissertation, in which I debated the responsibility of disposable plastic overconsumption as content and concept inspiration, every decision I made was as sustainable as I could manage, visually responding to my dissertation.
In my publication I used “plastic paper”, a material I created by fusing layers of recycled plastic bags together using an iron. As I could send it through my printer, I printed the chapter titles and descriptions on the dividers and also used it as a sleeve cover. My book was bound with ‘plastic thread’, which I made by stretching thin lines of recycled plastic bag. To save paper and ink I utilised space on the page, using full justification and hyphenation settings. I printed on 100% recycled sugar paper and only used eco fonts; letters which have white space in to save ink. The publication is A6 as to not overwhelm each page with writing, as I used the smallest legible point size. Throughout this publication I did not use any non-recycled material except for printer ink.
